Описание к видео Shaping the Future Of Learning | Christian Rebernik | TEDxKassel

NOTE FROM TED: TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...

In the pandemic students in homeschooling didn’t learn as much as before. This made many of us feel that we haven’t figured online learning out. And data confirms this. Many online programs suffer from a lack of engagement and online education struggles with famously low completion rates.
But is it really only online education which doesn’t work? The pandemic uncovered what happens, if we don’t have the part where we socialize.
Looking at the history of education, learning has been like this since centuries. Lectures just don’t work.

And the world has changed since the 14th century. More drastically in the last decades. We are living in a time which is often referred to as the VUCA world. The letters stand for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. A time which is less stable and predictable. Where different skills are relevant. Where information often is available with a tab of the finger, but sometimes there is just too much information or even fake news. Where we have a climate crisis, a pandemic, a war in our neighbor countries and an energy crisis as a consequence.

But how have we changed learning based on what the problems in learning the pandemic unveiled? We see many universities changing back to the old way of learning. On campus. Same Lectures.

I believe there is a great opportunity to improve learning, for online learners first. Building on top of the findings from learning science on one side and the benefits from learning remote on the one other side. These advantages for learners can include more flexibility, better accessibility, saving time on commuting or a global collaboration.

Learning science explains the advantages of active learning methods based on the self-determination theory like challenge based learning to increase engagement and outcomes. Further improvements are achieved through mastery learning and social learning. While social learning is different online, technology like learning in the metaverse environment can help to create more fun, serendipity and engagement.

The future of education will be great. Schools and universities can provide engaging and individual learning possibilities, where students from anywhere in the world can learn together, achieving better outcomes and having fun.

I believe education is key for all of us, to create a future worth living. A sustainable future. For all of us. Christian Rebernik is CEO, founder and chancellor of Tomorrow's Education, creator and a caring dad. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
