When solving a solid stress problem using FEA, the results are typically in the form of stress components at each point (node) in the solid. While this provides great insight into the behavior of the solid, it can sometimes make design decisions more difficult, particularly with pressure vessels. Stress Linearlization is a necessary tool to convert the stress components into primary, secondary and peak stresses, and to make design decisions based on the ASME Pressure Vessel code.
