One of the most scenic rivers in Valsesia, Piemont: The Mastallone. We started in the upper section (roughly a class III) with its broader river bed. From the frullatore, a narrow cataract close to the small village Bocciolaro, the river grows into a class IV (V) and one can enjoy a really narrow river gorge - just after the portage at its entrance. From the gorge to the take-out (class III-IVish), one can enjoy a different river style again.
