Nepal's political landscape witnessed a significant shift on March 4, 2024, as Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ lost a crucial vote of confidence in the House of Representatives. This was triggered by the withdrawal of support from the largest party in the ruling coalition, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) CPN-UML, led by K.P. Sharma Oli.

Following the collapse of the previous alliance, a new five-party coalition emerged. This new bloc, comprising the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, and three smaller parties, unanimously endorsed K.P. Sharma Oli as their candidate for Prime Minister. Consequently, on March 5, 2024, Oli was officially appointed as the new Prime Minister of Nepal by President Ram Chandra Paudel, marking his return to the top post.

This change is a classic example of Nepal's fluid coalition politics, where alliances are frequently reconfigured. The new government, a coalition of previously opposing factions like the NC and UML, now faces the immediate challenge of maintaining stability and addressing pressing national issues.
