Welcome Back.
This review is all about the fresh 2020 release of Michelins New Range of Tyres.

Firstly a MASSIVE shoutout to all the crew at The Bicycle Corporation for always helping me out and offering tyres like these...

- NOW I NEED TO START WITH THIS COMMENT - Despite all 4 tyres wearing the well publicised DH Logo it is extremely important to note that these tyres are an amazing all round trail tyre & not just for DH, All levels of riders will benefit from most if not all trail conditions.

THE RANGE -
DH22
DH34
DH34 BIKE PARK &
DH MUD.

The DH22 & the DH34 are the sole of the range with both being an ultimate all rounder trail tyre, both performing EXCEPTIONALLY well on the common trail surfaces and conditions we ride.
Michelin claim the DH22 to be the most versatile in the range but I cant help but think the claim is based mostly around Europe where overall conditions are soft & loamy.
After riding both the DH22 & the DH34 I found both tyres were fairly evenly matched on the common variety of trail systems varying from Hard Packed Dusty to Tree Rooted Rocky to Soft n Loamy both were well impressive.

TECHNOLOGY NEW TO US or OUTSIDE THE NORM -

- Wire Bead Tubeless -
Yes you read correctly, wire bead tubeless, due to the brilliantly designed DH Shield casing which now enables riders to run even less tyre pressures than ever before Michelin have applied a wire bead to add additional tyre to rim grab surface assisting in avoiding and near eliminating the possibility’s of Tyre burping and sealant spitting.

- 4x Ply DH Sheild Casing -
2x 2 layer 55tpi sidewall casing.

- Low Pressure Reinforcement Layer - Inner 2 layers offer additional verticle stability allowing lower pressures and increased sidewall support.

- High Density Puncture Protection - outside 2 layers are reinforced to assist in eliminating penetration from foreign objects as well as protecting the rims from harsh and aggressive impacts.

- MAGI-X COMPOUND -
Michelin dont rely so much on softer density materials which hold less support and resistance, they run a “Slightly” firmer durometer and have it injected with the seriously tacky Magi-X compund, the results are a faster rolling tyre with knobs that stand firm into turns and a material that hooks up even when your not expecting it to..

THE TYRES -
DH22 -
Where the characteristics of each tyre changed is where the soil becomes dominantly softer and loamy, this is where the DH22 really activated its specific design capabilities and managed to really keep a good solid pace and hooked up brilliantly into loose softer turns without bogging down.

DH34 -
Now we are aware of the 22’s capabilities its obvious then that the DH22 will be just as impressive when it comes to faster rockier harder packed trails.
The DH34 was the tyre I liked most and personally do believe is the better all round tyre for riders that are surrounded with harder faster packed trail conditions.
The DH34 was still insanely impressive when the trails are softer but certainly is most lively, aggressive and super fast on the faster trail networks..

DH34 BIKEPARK - This is Michelins budget tyre, it utilises the same casing and block design as the DH34 but runs a slightly more compliant sidewall utilising a 33tpi casing also making this tyre considerably lighter yet still performing well above average,, the BikePark tyre also runs the GUM-X compound as opposed to the Magi-X.
The Gum-X is still a seriously tacky compound but not as sticky as its Magi-X partner.

DH MUD - I have not yet used this tyre but from all accounts it performs exceptionally well in kitty litter surfaces, messy talcum powder ground and ofcourse it grips brilliantly in wet conditions.
