Sonex Orthopedics is a medical practice that specialized in High-energy Shockwave Therapy, a non-invasive alternative to surgery for multiple musculoskeletal injuries. We have our OsteoWave® for the treatment of osteoarthritis and OrthoWave® for the treatment of common overuse injuries. Shockwave therapy has been around for 30 years, FDA approved, hundreds of studies backing up its safety and efficacy, proving that it actually works. What is a treatment like?
A patient would come in, be examined and we would discuss treatment options to make sure Shockwave therapy is right for them. After that, our treatment room has comfortable chairs to allow us to get positioned correctly, both the patient and the machine. The treatment head of our Shockwave therapy device will be placed against the injury, a coupling gel will be placed to help facilitate the transfer of the acoustic waves. The actual treatment lasts about 25 minutes. It is acoustic waves, not electric shock; therefore, you will hear the acoustic waves. The only downside is that the treatment is a little bit noisy.
What can a patient expect as a result?
Of course everybody is different, but pain relief is almost immediate. After the treatment, the patient can walk out. There are no restrictions on routine activities, but they do have to avoid high impact activities for 30 days. With OsteoWave®, very similar, the treatment will last about 25 mins and the pain relief is almost immediate.
