In the heart of the famous Ajegunle, located in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos, a state-of-the-art sports facility, the new Maracana Stadium, has emerged, equipped to rival top European club training facilities. With 19 pitches accommodating over 3,000 children playing various football categories, the stadium stands out as a dream-shaping centre. What sets it apart is the presence of two sprawling hostels, each with 96 beds, named after European football stars Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City and Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund.

Reportedly, Ndidi and Adeyemi contributed funds for the construction of these hostels. Funded by the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, the Maracana Stadium symbolizes the aspirations of countless talented Nigerian youngsters, many of whom lack access to playing grounds in their schools. The facility was officially unveiled on October 22, 2023, with aspiring young footballers witnessing the realisation of their dreams.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, inspected the facility alongside dignitaries, traditional rulers, sports administrators, journalists, and sports enthusiasts from Ajegunle and beyond. Despite Ajegunle's tough reputation, the new Maracana Stadium aims to dispel misconceptions and showcase the community as a talent incubator.

Chief Yemi Idowu, Chairman of the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, expressed gratitude to the community for providing the opportunity to contribute to Nigeria's football development, emphasising that the project's success was a result of community support.
