Whether you’re prepping for Christmas, a Holiday Dinner, or just hosting some friends and family, following these simple steps in cleaning and maintaining your home will help guests feel welcome and hopefully ensure a seamless hosting day!

These are the areas I focus on when hosting and prepping for guests to come over:
✔️The Entryway:
This is the first impression. Ensure everything is tidied up, and neatly put away.
✔️The Main Living / Seating Area:
Where is everyone going to be sitting and chatting? Tidy up the space and give the main surfaces a quick dust!
✔️ The Bathroom
Which bathroom do guests use? Focus on that one. Tidy it up and put everything back in it’s home. Quick dust, and wipe down the surfaces / toilet & mirror!
✔️The Kitchen:
Try to have the dishwasher emptied so dishes can easily be put in and not crowd the kitchen. I usually wash all my pots and pans and items used for prepping by hand and get them dried and put away! Try to clean as you go!
✔️The Floors of these rooms:
Do a quick walk through with your broom (or even better if time is on your side: a vacuum!) + a quick mop! (Focus on the bathroom, if time is limited).
✔️Prep as much as you can leading up to the event in regards to food. You can make dessert ahead of time! Prep any fruit, veggies, meat and cheese etc the day before!
✔️Kick the kids (& husband) out of the house.
Just kidding.. kind of. In all seriousness, if they’re playing outside, it’s less of a mess inside!

I also just want to add: no one cares if your window tracks are cleaned, or if your kids have some toys out that they’re playing with! Inviting someone into your home shouldn’t be super stressful. Try to give yourself some grace!
