With the Gujarat government all set to unveil its New Textile Policy 2024, industry players in Surat are eagerly anticipating support in the form of capital and power subsidies. The hope is to prevent the migration of Surat's booming textile industry to Maharashtra, where lower power rates have been a significant draw for textile businesses.

Currently, around 130 textile factories owned by Surat entrepreneurs operate in Maharashtra's Navapur MIDC area. With more businessmen planning to establish their factories in Navapur post-Diwali, the pressure is on Gujarat to make the new policy favorable. As Navapur MIDC reaches capacity, entrepreneurs are being advised to explore the Bhaler MIDC in Nandurbar, just 60 km away.

The New Gujarat Textile Policy 2024, set to be launched by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, promises to be a crucial move in the region's economic landscape. Industry stakeholders have already voiced their need for subsidies during consultations with state officials, hoping for a more industry-friendly policy that can increase exports and support local businesses.

Vijay Kumar Mevawala, president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCI), expresses optimism that the government will accommodate their demands for subsidies. Meanwhile, entrepreneurs like C K Mania, who have already invested heavily in expanding their operations to Navapur MIDC, highlight the stark cost differences, from power rates to land prices, between Gujarat and Maharashtra.
