I made a shaft driven Direct Drive Hi hat Stand out of a Pearl Redline (H2000 or H2050) Hi Hat Stand and an old Pearl slave drive pedal and shaft.

It was actually really easy. Just had to flip the cam on the slave pedal and take one piece off the stand. Connected right up.

I removed the pedal,, and use a Gibraltar SC-EA250 to connect it to my tom mount arm on my bass drum. I could use just the legs though! That's what I was using for the cable driven RH2050 that was there prior.

I love the RH2050 but it’s very hard to move it fast. So I couldn’t do steady 1/8th notes well. I started playing open handed a while ago (only been playing a year though). But I refuse to go back to crossing over!

I also love how low I can get the hats in this position. At about the “1:30” position I guess, and just inches above my snare, slightly overhanging it. I don't have to lift my arm to play it, and I can kind of lock into my kick foot with it. Plus my ride ‘rides’ right over it, overlapping the hats.

Not sure how many hi hat stands would make it so easy do do this, but I think some of the DWs would. I’m sure there are others. THANKS for watching!
