The Michael Zager Band ~ Let's All Chant 1977 Disco Purrfection Version

This is as pure as disco can get! Great disco music had something you could sing along to and this one has that ooh-oooh ooh-oooh chant that you heard in Heatwaves "The Groove Line" and Foxy who's house party favorite "Get Off" did it at least a dozen times on the record, but it got them thrown out of a gig where they performed it live again after being warned by the Bar Manager who found the song too inciting.

Micahel Zager was also the first person to recognize the talent of a very young Whitney Houston, the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston and you can find that proof on Zager's 1978 LP, "Life's A Party" where they performed on the title tune when Whitney was 14.

Zager was born January 3, 1943 in Passaic, New Jersey. Musically inclined, he joined a jazz rock band named Ten Wheel Drive at the age of 15 and was with them up to 1973. Working with the very successful Major Records label as producer of production music be used for film or video he contributed several songs to an official vinyl release.

He turned his attentions toward himself and created a studio band to record "Let's All Chant" and got himself a #1 disco hit in February of 1978. It did not fare as well on the Hot100 where it struggled to peak at #36. This is good time music, not much analysis to be done here, just dance your butt off!

In 1979 Zager revitalized the career of the Spinners with their super cool disco song rework of "Working My Way Back To You" mashed up with a Zager original composition of "Forgive Me Girl" that became a bridge in the song and the stunt worked! Everyone was dancing to that song and still do, I should get around to doing that one someday.
