This project started out as an extremely heavy cross-section of a maple tree. I'm not sure who cut it down but they painted one side white to help reduce twisting and warping during the drying process. It was, however, very uneven about 6 in at one end tapering down to 5 or less at the other.
I learned a great deal in this project about the router flattening process, substituting epoxy clay for some uses and had a great experience with getting a custom fabricated metal base!
