Formula weight and molecular weight have slightly different definitions, though, for many substances, the two measurements are the same (and we've been told the terms are used interchangeably by many chemists).



PPM
Just as percent means out of a hundred, so parts per million ppm mean out of a million. Usually describes the concentration of something in water or soil. One ppm is equivalent to 1 milligram of something per liter of water (mg/l) or 1 milligram of something per kilogram soil (mg/kg).
ppm is an abbreviation of parts per million. ppm is a value that represents the part of a whole number in units of 1/1000000.
ppm is a dimensionless quantity, a ratio of 2 quantities of the same unit. For example: mg/kg.
One ppm is equal to 1/1000000 of the whole:
1ppm = 1/1000000 = 0.000001 = 1×10-6

One ppm is equal to 0.0001%:
1ppm = 0.0001%
