Watch this time lapse of the installation of the "Say Hey" tribute mural to the great Willie Mays! It is another of muralist John Cerney's large outdoor art installations that dot the highways of California and roads throughout the United States. "Say Hey" is located on Highway 101 about 15 miles north of Salinas, California.

A tribute mural to the artist's boyhood hero, it features giant cutout pieces that show Willie in his New York Giants days, as well as his many San Francisco Giants years. Prep work was needed before the cutouts could be placed on the side of the old barn. First, John Cerney's old baseball-themed mural from 1991 (restored in 2005) was removed. Then extensive surface work was done on the large barn face and the side faces including scraping old paint and applying fresh color. Finally, the artwork was attached!
