The 501st Legion organization is not a part of Lucasfilm and is completely a “volunteer fan organization” founded by Albin Johnson. The Legion is divided by location. There are units for different countries and “garrisons”, “detachments” and “outposts” within each unit/country. Within each garrison there are different “officers” that oversee planning and organizing events for members and approving costumes.
