Understanding Prepositional Phrases This video connects the function of a prepositional phrase to the function of complete sentences (subjects and predicates). A prepositional phrase is explained as consisting of a preposition and an object of a preposition. Prepositional phrases provide additional information to make our speaking and writing more specific. Prepositions are simplified as words that indicate time or place. Video imagery and audio voice-over combine to highlight how the role of the prepositional phrase enhances speaking and writing to provide direction or location, indicate time, or provide details to our listeners or readers. Students are engaged in learning through examples that build upon simple sentence structures that illustrate how adding prepositional phrases can enhance communication skills.
