Pavlov's dogs

Anyone who has done any kind of learning about psychology will have heard of Pavlov and his dogs. All psychology text books contain a section examining classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is about learning a response to a stimulus that would otherwise be natural. In textbooks we are told of the dogs being conditioned to salivate on hearing a bell because they had learned an association between the bell and food.
