We’re all human beings. We all deserve to be here, to have the freedom to feel safe. To love. To live. And that includes queer and trans people.

After the mass shooting in the L.G.B.T.Q. nightclub in Colorado this month, @streetsdept posted his thoughts and reflection on his [blog](https://streetsdept.com/2022/11/22/qu...) about the violence that keeps occurring towards LGBTQ+ folx, both physically and politically in this country. He talks about the 2021 temporary installation Pride piece done by Nicole Nikolich (lace_in_the_moon) in Philly, and how he’s happy there will be a permanent installation going up in the Gayborhood soon of Philadelphia’s first mural honoring and celebrating the city’s decades-long history of Ballroom culture. @streetsdept is working in collaboration with our founder (@nilelivingston), @jacenbowman, and @muralarts to make this amazing piece of LGBTQ+ history a permanent part of our city.

This and the fact that the senate passed a bill, the Respect for Marriage Act, to protect same-sex and interracial marriage yesterday with a 61-36 final vote gives us hope that going forward, with a lot more work, we can have a better world where everyone is safe no matter who they love or what the color of their skin is.
