Swami Desikan composed Garuda Dandakam praising Sri Garuda, who appeared in front of him after severe penances. This Garuda Dandakam has 108 syllables in each quarter. This work is in praise of Garuda. It is said that a snake charmer challenged Desikan to defy a deadly serpent which he sent towards the Master, and on singing this Dandakam, Garuda appeared and carried away that snake. The snakes represents our problems and obstacles in our life. By hearing or chanting this Garuda Dandakam, all our problems and obstacles will be carried away by Sri Garuda. He will bless us with Brahama Vidya, four purshatas, peace, happiness and prosperity.



Garuda Dandakam is a great prayer composed by Srimad Vedanta Desika, extols Garuda, one of the foremost devotees of Lord Vishnu . This poem is written in the Dandaka meter.

When one chants Garuda Dandakam before embarking on long distance journey it is believed Lord Garuda will guard and protect the devotee.

It increases one’s self confidence and courage.

Destroys enemies and evil rivals of devotees.

Alleviates fear of snakes and other reptiles.

It helps the gain name, fame and wealth.

It ensures worry free life, full of joy and happiness.

All righteous wishes of the devotees will be fulfilled.

It also helps very much in thwarting of evil eyes, removing Black magic and other negative energies.

It also helps in removing Sarpa doshas [ Kala Sarpa dosha, Naga Dosha, Rahu dosha, Ketu dosha ]
Chanting this mantra with true devotion makes one closer to Lord Garuda and Lord Vishnu


ఓ విష్ణువు నివాసంలో నివసించే పక్షి,
ఓం అని ప్రారంభించి, అగ్నిదేవుని భార్య (స్వాహా) అనే ఐదు అక్షరాల మంత్రంతో,
ఇంద్రునిపై వాలఖిల్య అనే ఋషుల శాపాన్ని తీర్చడానికి జన్మించిన నీవు , వారి శాపాన్ని నెరవేర్చి,
నిన్ను సవాలు చేసిన మూలాధార సర్పాలకు మృత్యువు ప్రభువు
నీవు, విశ్వానికి మూలకారణుడైన ముకుందుడు మరియు నిరంతరం గొప్ప ఆనందాన్ని ఇచ్చే గొప్ప క్షీరకుడు,
నన్ను విచక్షణతో అనుగ్రహించండి జ్ఞానం,
నిరంతరం భక్తి పాలు ఇచ్చే ఆవుగా ఉండేలా నన్ను ఆశీర్వదించడానికి సంతోషించండి
మరియు సాధారణ మోహం లేని ఆనందంతో ఆశీర్వదించండి,

షడ్ త్రింసత్ గణ చరణో నర పరి పాతి నవీన గుంభ గణ,
విష్ణురాధ దండకోయం విఘాతయతు విపక్ష వాహినీ వ్యోహమ్.

ఈ పద్యం 4 పంక్తులను కలిగి ఉంటుంది, ప్రతి పంక్తి 36 సమూహాలను కలిగి ఉంటుంది,
ప్రతి సమూహం మూడు అక్షరాలను కలిగి ఉంటుంది మరియు పద్యం యొక్క నియమాలను అనుసరిస్తుంది
మరియు పఠిస్తే శత్రువుల నిర్మాణాలను పూర్తిగా తరిమికొట్టవచ్చు.

గరుడుని స్తుతిస్తూ ఈ దండకం,
తన పతాకంలో గరుడను కలిగి ఉన్న భగవంతుని గౌరవార్థం,
వేంకటేశ అనే పండితునిచే రచించబడింది మరియు కోరికలను తీర్చి,
పారాయణకు అనేక రెట్లు అనుగ్రహాన్ని ఇస్తుంది.
