Summary :
Mesas & Buttes: Mesa in Spanish means table. Flat table –like land mass with a veryresistant horizontal top layer & very steep sides. Continued erosion through ages may reduce mesas in area so that they become isolated flat-topped hills called Buttes.
Inselberg : Isolated mountain. Steep slopes . Composed of granite or gneiss and are probably the relics of an original plateau which has been almost entirely eroded away.
Ventifacts or dreikanter: flat facets with sharp edges.
Oases or swaps : Winds wear of the ground rocks until water table is reached. Faiyum depression in Egypt lies 130 feet below sea level. Great dust bowl of USA.
