Derek Penwell is an author, editor, speaker, and activist. He is the senior minister of Douglass Boulevard Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Louisville, Kentucky and a lecturer at the University of Louisville in Religious Studies and ComparativeHumanities.

He has a Ph.D. in humanities from the University of Louisville, and is the author of The Mainliner’s Survival Guide to the Post-Denominational World, from Chalice Press. He currently writes a weekly column for The Good Men Project.

Penwell is the author of a new book, out in February 2019:
Outlandish: An Unlikely Messiah, a Messy Ministry, and the Call to Mobilize, about how to form communities of resistance, using Jesus as a model.
