Ever wonder how DUI policy and laws are actually created in North Carolina?

As a long time member of the North Carolina Governor's Statewide Impaired Driving Task Force, Bill Powers been honored to be included by three different administrations (Govs Pat McCrory, Roy Cooper & Josh Stein).

Led by Mark Ezzell, Director, NC Governor's Highway Safety Program, the Governor's Impaired Driving task force brings together law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and public safety advocates to discuss North Carolina's impaired driving policies and make suggestions.

The Statewide Impaired Driving Task Force recommends policy, practices and procedures with the purpose of saving lives in North Carolina. The Task Force also creates an impaired driving plan outlining a comprehensive strategy for preventing and reducing impaired driving in North Carolina.

The North Carolina General Assembly writes the laws. The task force provides input, perspectives, and recommendations. Occasionally, those suggestions are considered and adopted into legislation.
