so it turns out wireframes for effects can be enabled on a per map basis, so once I find out how to turn it on and off I then traced it back and now have a value to toggle it on or off anywhere. sadly beside the options to make the wireframes completely black or turn off effects entirely, there are no other fun options there. still cool to see through
