New Zealand Maori King's Daughter Appointed Successor, Queen Ngā Wai Hono I Te Po

The daughter of New Zealand’s late Māori King, Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII, has been anointed as his successor at Ngāruawāhia on Thursday.

The ceremony for the new monarch of the Kiingitanga movement, Queen Ngā wai hono i te po, was held ahead of her father's funeral.

Kiingi Tuheitia's coffin was later carried out of the marae and transported on his final journey by waka (canoe) on his ancestral river, from Ngāruawāhia to Taupiri.
