HISTORY OF THE USA

In 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered America. After that, Europeans began to explore and colonize the American continent. In 1607, the first permanent English settlement, Jamestown, was established in what is now Virginia.

Over the 17th and 18th century, more English colonies were established along the eastern coast of North America. But in 1760s tensions began between the colonies and Britain due to high taxes imposed by the British government. In 1775, the first battles took place between the American militia and the British army. The Revolutionary War has begun.

In 1776, in Philadelphia, the Second Continental Congress declared the independence of 13 American colonies from Great Britain as the United States of America. Led by general Washington, the USA won the War of Independence and became first modern democracy.
