Visiting Canada's Tallest Lighthouse | Gaspésie, Québec, Canada

We're visiting Canada's tallest lighthouse as we continue our incredible road trip around Gaspé! In fact the day turns into a bit of an unofficial lighthouse tour because we visit three that are all unique and noteworthy in their own ways. First, however, we start the day down at the harbour in the town of Gaspé at a place called the Birthplace of Canada. This is where Jacques Cartier first arrived in 1534 and planted a cross to claim these lands for the King of France. Now you can see a granite cross erected in 1934 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of his arrival and also learn about the Indigenous people who were already living here and met with Cartier. We also visit two lovely cafes that we recommend checking out in Gaspé plus the Gaspésie Museum which has impressive multimedia exhibitions telling the fascinating history of this area.
