The Nittany Lions finished their 1993 regular season in wild fashion out in East Lansing against Michigan State. It was a shootout in which Penn State gift-wrapped the Spartans the ball in the form of turnovers in the first half, allowing the Green and White to get out in front with the scoring. It wasn't that Penn State couldn't move the ball, as Kerry Collins put together a career day passing. But in the second half, the Lions found themselves down by 20 points as the fourth quarter was looming. A quick strike to Bobby Engram for a touchdown closed the gap, and then two more very quick touchdowns in the beginning of the final quarter gave Penn State the one-point edge. Then it was the battle against the clock to keep the ball out of Michigan State's hands, and keep them out of scoring range. And that's when the defense (in particularly the pass rush) stepped up and put an end to the Spartans to seal the victory.

Penn State's Top Performers:

Kerry Collins: 23 of 42, 352 yards, 3 TDs, Int.
Bobby Engram: 4 receptions, 116 yards, 2 TDs
Freddie Scott: 5 receptions, 70 yards, TD
Kyle Brady: 6 receptions, 68 yards

Penn State finished 1993 with a 9-2 record to earn a trip to the Citrus Bowl to face Tennessee. Michigan State ended it with 6-6 record which included a loss in the Liberty Bowl to Louisville. The Spartans finished with a 7th place finish in the Big Ten standings that year.
