Hi! Thanks for coming back to share in my journey. Only one episode left! Next week is the season finale of my Solo Series "Exploring Over 60"...
But, this week! I'm hiking in my backyard, northwest in the "Secret City" of Oak Ridge Tennessee. In this episode you'll get to warm up with as we hike along the East Quarry Trail. Although the weather is starting to cooler, today was quite warm and sunny. Welcome to east Tennessee, give it 5 minutes and the weather will change again! The trail rating is Easy, it's mostly gravel with a switchback on to a dirt trail. The trail is shared with trail bikes. It boast a beautiful scenic area and a lake for swimming..
All of this and more in a City that the world, Americans and most of residents in the Rural farmland of Tennessee didn't know about. The U.S government bought acres and acres of this land giving the people very little time to leave. "The Manhattan Project" had three main sites, Los Alamos were Oppenheimer was, Oak Ridge and Washington (Hanford) where the uranium was worked on. The idea was the areas would have the least amount of "Collateral Damage". Imagine going to the butcher shop and not knowing down the road there was a nuclear plant! The world was shocked when they found out. I will link a video from another channel with more information on this subject.
