Hello Everyone, Today I am going to explain reference qualifiers with examples
Reference qualifiers are conditions used to filter out the data to be displayed from the referenced table.
There are 3 types of reference qualifiers Simple, Dynamic & Advanced
Simple reference qualifiers are created using condition builder Dynamic reference qualifiers are created using script includes or global business rule Advanced reference qualifiers are created using inline encrypted query string or a JavaScript
Let's look at an example of a Simple reference qualifiers
To demonstrate this example, let's consider a scenario where you want the service-desk agents to select only active users in the caller field.
Right-click on the caller field and click on configure dictionary from the contextual menu
click on "advanced view" in the related links
Go to the Reference specification tab and select the option "Simple" for the "use reference qualifier" field
for "Reference qual condition" construct the condition as active is 'true'
Click on update
Now you will notice the service-desk agents can only select active users in the caller field.
Now, Let's look at an example of a dynamic reference qualifiers
For instance, assume you want the CMDB administrators to select only the members of the "server team" in the "supported by" field
Navigate to "Dynamic Filter Options", under system definitions in all menu
Click on new
Give a meaningful name to the "Dynamic filter options"
To demonstrate this example, I have already created a script include "Server Team Members" with the function "supported by" This will returns the sys ids of the members of the "server team"
Initialize the script include and call the function in the script field by entering "new ServerTeamMembers().supportedBy()"
Select field type as reference field and the referenced table as sys_user as the supported by field on cmdb table is referenced to the users table
Set the reference script by selecting the table name as the script include
Select the document as the script include that was created for this example
Click on the OK button
Make sure the "Available for ref qual" and "active" checkboxes are checked
click on submit
Click on all menu, In the navigation filter type "cmdb_ci_server.list" and hit enter
Open any of the server records, Right click on the "supported by" field, and click on configure dictionary from the contextual menu
click on "advanced view" in the related links
Go to the Reference specification tab and select the option "Dynamic" for the "use reference qualifier" field
Select the "Dynamic ref qual" field with the dynamic filter option we created earlier
Click on update
Now you will notice the CMDB administrators can only select the members of the "server team" in the "supported by" field
As an example of an advanced reference qualifier, let us consider a scenario where the "service-desk agent" should be restricted from selecting assigned to user same as the caller
Right-click on the "Assigned to" field and click on configure dictionary from the contextual menu
click on "advanced view" in the related links
Go to the Reference specification tab and select the option "Advanced" for the "use reference qualifier" field
In "Reference qual" enter a JavaScript that evaluates to a query string.
In this case javascript:'active=true^sys_id!='+current.u_caller
Click on update
Now you will notice the service-desk agents will not have the option to select the caller of the current record assigned to the field
