Cambodia: Australian MP Clare O'Neil meet Cambodian community

Federal Member Clare O'Neil, member for Hotham, speaking at Buddharangsi Temple, Melbourne -- Australia. Regarding human right abuses that happening for quite some time now in Cambodia.

Recently, Cambodia community leader Hong Lim and other come to see me concerning the issues regarding integrity of the Election held last year in Cambodia. QC MP Mark Dreyfus and I feel disgusted that garment workers protesting in Cambodia had been shot.

QC MP Mark Dreyfus and I, met with Professor Gareth Evans, we share the concern with him and he told us, enough is enough. The recent action of the Hun Sen regime has gone too far and now time for us and representatives of this community to speak out strongly against violent and against abuse of human right.

Mark and I, we decided that we would move the Motion in the Australian Parliament, calling on the Australian government to condemn on Human right abuses in Cambodia and to state clearly that the imprisonment the garment workers is unfair and human right need to be protected. Loudly condemning the action of the government in shooting the Cambodian who wants their basic right.

I want you to know that there were many members of parliament from all over of Australia who want to speak on your behalf to ask the government to take the strong action against this. I want you to know especially in the Labour party, there are many members of parliament who want to take your cause on and who want to protect the Cambodian people.

I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that I will do everything can and try to help to protect Cambodian Australian and Cambodian who remain in Cambodia because I understand that so many of you fled the Khmer rouge or your parents fled the Khmer rouge to come to Australia for a better life and you want your Cambodian brothers and sisters to share this in Cambodia like you have here in Australia.

I close by saying that I rely on you rely on people like Hong Lim and Hak Meng and Yorn Chea to keep me up to date of what happening in Cambodia. What ever I know about and I`can take back to the Australian parliament, I can talk to our Shadow Minister for Foreign Affair and to the Minister Foreign Affair about this issues and I continue to fight the hardest I can to bring justice for Cambodia.
