The Class 103 electrics built between 1969 ands 1974 became the iconic German passenger locomotive of the 1970s and 1980s. This programme uses material previously published in European Railway as well as some new unpublished material, to bring to the viewer a profile of the class at work, throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Two livery variations are seen: Trans Europe Express and DB red. The class are witnessed at work throughout the country and also in Austria on Intercity, Eurocity and Inter-Regional passenger workings.
The class 110 was the first of the ‘Standard’ electric locomotives built for German Railways. Intended primarily as a passenger loco they were also designed to work freight. This programme looks at the older more-rounded front end design of locomotive, designated class 110.1, as well as the later design with the slightly altered angular cab design, designated as class 110.3. The programme features both sub-classes at work from around the country on a mixture of local passenger train workings, with some excellent liveried coaching stock - most now long since replaced or repainted. We even have two scenes of the class working freight trains, something of a rarity.
