Mechanism of Action
Recombinant Viral Vector: Ervebo uses a live attenuated recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) that has been genetically engineered to express the main glycoprotein from the Zaire ebolavirus. This glycoprotein triggers an immune response, providing protection against the Ebola virus.

Indications and Usage
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD): Ervebo is indicated for active immunization of individuals 1 year of age or older to protect against Ebola virus disease caused by the Zaire ebolavirus.

Pharmacokinetics
Administration: The vaccine is administered intramuscularly, typically in the deltoid area of the non-dominant arm or the higher anterolateral area of the thigh.

Dosage: A single dose (1 mL) contains ≥72 million plaque-forming units (pfu) of the live attenuated recombinant VSV.

Adverse Effects
Common Adverse Effects: Systemic side effects include headache, feverishness, fatigue, joint and muscle pain, nausea, arthritis, rash, and abnormal sweating. Injection-site side effects include pain, swelling, and redness.

Serious Adverse Effects: Serious adverse effects are rare but may include hypersensitivity reactions.

Effectiveness
High Level of Protection: The vaccine has shown a high level of protection when used in ring vaccination during Ebola outbreaks. It was found to be 97.5% effective at stopping Ebola transmission.

Special Considerations
Precautions: The vaccine should be administered by a trained healthcare worker. It should not be mixed with other vaccines or medicinal products in the same syringe
