Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons drills are based on “intimidation” and “threats”, says ANU Strategic and Defence Studies Centre’s Associate Professor Matthew Sussex.

Russia has begun the drills near Ukraine in what it says is a response to 'Western' threats.

“For the Russian government, rattling the nuclear saber is unfortunately part of its diplomacy,” Mr Sussex told Sky News Australia.
