I can only give my opinion from the perspective of running an inn and hosting Russian guts, and it might be unpleasant reading for my Russian comrades. Ive had guts from all around the world and from different walks of life and I treat them all the same, but Russian guts are like an enigma to me as no matter what I do they always leave the worst reviews and the worst impressions. For some reason unbeknownst to me this also applies to Russians from the Baltic countries. In short, I just cant cra the Russian code! Its with a heavy heart that I write this, but most of them have come off as a combination of the following rude, demanding, pretentious, ungrateful, coeited, false and cheap. Ive tried to justify this kind of behaviour, and I have tried different approaches to it. Since some answers on Quora have gone into detail to try and explain the rudeness and the lack of politeness, Ive played it off as merely a cultural thing, I can live with that. Ive tried to match the rudeness in an attempt to seem more familiar to them, but with miserable results. Ive also read on Quora that Russians are coused as to why we Poles arent grateful for having been saved by them during WWII and being the bigger brother, so I have also tried being overly polite just short of rolling out a red carpet and kissing their feet. This has also failed. Maybe its an misalignment of customer expectation? Many arrive in high end luxury SUVs, which is strange to me since I run an inn for people on a budget with the price itself supposedly being a good indicator of the room standard that should be expected. But then again Quora told me Russians buy expensive cars but keep on living in tiny cramped apartments. Whod have thought? This ended with me having six angry Russians shouting at me, and demanding the rooms for the price of four people, with me reiterating that they had to pay the full price. I called the booking agency whom in turn called them, with them flat out lying that they were only four. The agency told me to honor the reservation, but I in turn offered camera footage showing them being six, which the booking agency declined and promptly cancelled the reservation. Why the lies? A Russian woman wanted two single rooms, she had visited once before, and this time she wanted a discount. I gave her a 12,5pc discount, but she was persistent, and wanted 25pc off. When I said no, she proceeded to tell me how dirty the room was the last time she stayed, that the linen and bed spread was unchanged, that the next door neighbors were loud, how uncomfortable the bed was, etc. I stood my ground and did not se.ll the rooms, but it left me wondering how this strategy of insulting my tablishment was supposed to win her a discount? There are also some minor annoyances that are almost unique to Russians guts They love their smoked fish, leaving behind a lovely fragrance which can take days to air out. They also seem to love their dairy, like buttermilk, yoghurt and kefir, which tends to go bad quite quickly and the gu.nk seeps out into the bottom of the trash bin from the half empty co.ntainers. They throw used toilet paper in the bin, which I understand comes from having bad plumbing back hom.e that cant handle large amounts of paper, but it makes for a disgusting experience for a guy trying to segregate waste. They barter, but who doesnt enjoy some good bartering? Not when the online reservation already has a fixed price which I pay a commission on.
