BONDA VILLAGE, MALKANGIRI | Rinku's dairy

About :-

The Bonds hill villages are situated above 3000 feet height from MSL. It is located in the district MALKANGIRI at the southern extreme of the Odisha and 80 kms away from MALKANGIRI. This wild and mountainous region is home to the Bondas, a tribe belonging to the Auto - Asiatic family and schedule to as a "PRIMITIVE Tribe". The bonda community into two major groups referred to as the upper and lower Bonda. The lower Bonda lives in heterogeneous villages situated in the plane area and they have assimilated themselves to large extent with other plains people. All Bondas are practicing podu cultivation adopted by land less people, by burning and cleaning the forest area on the hill slope.

The women are collecting NTFP (Non- Timber forest produce) such as hill brooms,mahu flowers and seeds, siali leafs, Tamarind etc. They have been feared and photographed avoided but poorly rarely understood or loved.

There is no safe drinking water facility for which they suffer the most. As per mythological point of view in the name of Sitakund (water stream) is located in upper Bonda hill(mudulipada Village) where Sita was bathing in a kind, at the time of Banavas but now it is neglected.
