In this video we introduce you the Koi variety Kohaku. The Kohaku is a white Koi with red markings on it. The white of a Koi we call Shiroji, while the red patterns are called Hi. The Kohaku is part of the Gosanke family, together with Sanke and Showa.

Kohaku is surely one of the most popular and preferred varieties in the world of Nishikigoi. The Kohaku we can distinguish in different types. We introduce them in this video. Including the Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan, Inazume, Maruten, Ippon Hi, Tancho and Menkaburi Kohaku. For each type we introduce the basic characteristics.

Furthermore we will also pay attention in selection of a beautiful quality Kohaku. What are the basics that you have to know? For example to look for a Odome, which refers to the white part near the tail. The last part of the body of a Kohaku should preferable be white, this will boost the Kohaku and will make it look more massive and powerful. Only two centimetres of white at the end of the tail is enough.
