CANADA DAY IN BRONTE.....A BLAST FROM START TO FINISH!
Thousands of people of all ages streamed continuously into the Bronte Village Boardwalk and Heritage Waterfront Park on Sunday to paint Bronte red and white, to celebrate their pride in being Canadian and to enjoy Canada's 140th Birthday.
The picture-perfect day in Bronte's lakeside village started at 8am with the Lions Pancake breakfast, with many stopping to sign Canada's biggest birthday card courtesy of Sign-A-Rama. Afterward, the crowds filled the street all day to enjoy foods from local Bronte eateries, and shop at the Vendor Marketplace for local goods and services, Canada Day souvenirs and treasures from around the world.
The street-level Boardwalk Stage area was literally bursting with smiling faces, and dancing feet, thanks to Royal Bank sponsoring the magical Cinderella, and The David Archibald 'Kids Will Be Kids Show'. The multicultural rhythm and dance vibes peppered the hot, sunny, afternoon air with Latin, Hawaiian, Caribbean and Bellydance moves. Lineups never stopped for Prudential Town Centre Realty Inc.'s Horse and Wagon Rides, the bouncy castles, and for the brilliant artistry of Doodlebug, the face-painter and Round-A-Bout the balloon clown sponsored by Sue Coleman, RE/Max Aboutown Realty Horse & Wagon Rides.
In the late afternoon, the happy partygoers moved their lawn chairs, strollers and pets down to the Heritage Waterfront Park. The Kinsmens' BBQ tent was jammed as was the Lions Beer Garden, with people dancing in the lineups and having a great time. Young and the young at heart grooved to the eclectic blend of rock and roll, bluegrass, Celtic, and jazz, blues, funk and soul from the headline band, LMT Connection who accompanied the first fireworks blasts. The park was jammed, the night sky was clear, the fireworks reflected on the water, lighting up the smiling faces of the thousands there to celebrate . . . in a word, it was magical!
Mayor Rob Burton greeted residents and visitors and was heard to comment "Bronte Rocks".
BIA Chair Murray McDonald thanked all for attending Oakville's Canada Day celebration, hosted by the merchants businesses of Bronte, citing it "a phenomenal success", a day to remember. We are proud of our Bronte Community, our Events Planning Team headed by Executive Director Pat O'Reilly and Events Chair, Ann Sargent, and our amazing team of volunteers!
