Víctor Madrigal-Borloz, the UN Independent Expert on Protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, highlights the significance of the landmark judgment in the Azul Rojas Marín case. He answered important questions such as: how can Azul Rojas Marin's judgment help advance the fight against violence based on prejudice? and How prevalent is violence and discrimination against the LGBTIQ+ community? The judgment is the first addressing LGBTIQ+ discriminatory torture ever reached by a human rights court. It was issued in March 2020 by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in a case litigated by REDRESS, the Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos de Perú and Promsex.
