Impressions/observations during the test drive:
The exterior design of the 2nd-generation is nice and unique to it. It's also quite better than the 1st-generation. There are parts of the exterior wherein chrome details were used, which give it a classy and simple look, rather than a sporty one. The Burgundy Red Pearl paint in this test drive unit also adds to this look because it is subtle, but not boring. The wheel design is nice since it has some contrasting colors, rather than just using one. One unexpected thing was the use of halogens rather than LEDs for headlights, since this is the most expensive variant of this car available for sale as of now. Inside are some faux wood material which adds to the classy vibe of this car. Its overall design in the interior and exterior is definitely on that vibe, not a sporty one. The materials are good quality and feels durable. It has good storages for drinks and other things. The front center cupholders have A/C vents on them which can be helpful in keeping drinks cool. In the vicinity of those cupholders is a small storage which fits cellphones, but can't charge wirelessly. The front row has no center console and armrest, but there is a one in the 2nd row which does not have any cupholders. It is nice that the 2nd row seat arm rest supports its own weight rather than flopping down on to the seat. The infotainment screen of this car is smooth and easy to use. This screen also has wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Its reverse camera has a good quality, but there is no 360-degree camera here. In between the RPM and speed gauges, there is a screen that can show various information such as fuel economy, to g-force, acceleration-vs-braking, power-and-torque, and how the hybrid system works.
The engine in this car has enough output to provide for a safe, and enjoyable experience. It is not slow, but just enough to be enjoyable on public roads w/o breaking speed limits. As a hybrid, there is an electric motor which is audible when driving. The engine sound, combined with this makes for an interesting and engaging experience. In casual city driving, the auto-start stop function turns off the engine when the car is in full stop (when waiting at stoplights, etc) to conserve fuel (other functions like the infotainment screen remains). This only happens when in drive-gear and the brake pedal is being used. When the brake pedal is released, the way this function turns on the engine is quite smooth. Its power is transferred to the front wheels by a 4-speed auto, which does its tasks well enough during both casual and quicker-paced driving. This is subjectively preferable over CVTs in some of its competition like the 2023 Honda BRV. It's nice that they did not use a CVT even if this is a hybrid. The accelerator and brake pedals are responsive enough to inputs which make the car easy to drive quickly when it is safe to do so. Another responsive part is the steering which is light, but not vague and has some good feedback. This makes it quite fun to drive around corners. Also, this car has little body roll in cornering for a 7-seater vehicle. The comfort given by the suspension and the noise insulation are good.
