To gain passage through the Witness's portal, the Guardians fulfill Mara Sov's contract with Riven, called back from beyond the grave. Along the way, Riven reveals that Savathûn's wish only allows one to pass through the portal. Therefore, Crow volunteers to venture through first, allowing Osiris to use the Mara and Crow's connection to recreate the Witness's path. To allow Crow to complete his journey through to the Pale Heart of the Traveler, Guardians return to the Black Garden and vanquish the Darkness at its heart.
