July 30 every year is observed as the International Day of Friendship per declaration of the United Nations. It is also known as World Friendship Day. The declaration recognizes the significant role friendship plays in promoting peace among peoples of diverse cultures. It is also based on the idea that friendship among peoples, countries, and cultures can inspire peace efforts and can help build bridges between communities. With this declaration, the United Nations, on July 30 every year, encourages governments, organizations, and communities to conduct or hold events, and activities that will promote solidarity, mutual understanding, and reconciliation. It encourages the involvement of all people, especially the youth who are considered our future leaders, in activities with people of different cultures thereby promoting international understanding and respect for diversity.

The United Nations declaration of July 30 every year as International Day of Friendship or World Friendship Day acknowledges that "through friendship, accumulating bonds of camaraderies and developing strong ties of trust can contribute to the fundamental shifts that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect us all, and generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good."
