This is a quick demo showing my in progress car controller that uses only rigidbodies. The wheels are rigidbody-based, not raycast-based. They're connected to the main car body using Configurable Joints with spring and damper values for the suspension. Notice how I'm able to flip the truck on its side and the wheels respond as you'd expect spinning cylinders to respond. The next big things I want to add to it are audio, better friction curves for the wheels, and then a million other small things.
