Dr. Sanjay Chaudhary (Sr. Cataract & Refractive surgeon, at eye7 hospitals) discusses "Cataract", which is known as "Motiyabind" in Hindi, and involves a process within the eye's model. The light enters through an opening and then reaches the lens, commonly referred to as the "Parda" or retina, which forms images. This lens undergoes changes with age, gradually turning whitish. As it becomes white, the incoming light gets blocked at this level, causing a decrease in visual clarity. Consequently, the level of vision starts to decline.
In the case of cataracts, the solution involves the removal of the affected lens and replacing it with a normal lens, thus restoring clarity to the pathway and allowing light to reach the retina again. This surgical procedure results in the improvement of vision.
Currently, there is no medication available that can eliminate cataracts. The approach to cataract treatment depends on its severity. For Grade 1 cataracts, one might continue with regular activities. For Grade 2 and Grade 3 cataracts, it is generally advised to undergo surgery. However, for Grade 4 cataracts, it's recommended not to delay treatment, as they become significantly more advanced and involve risks like requiring intense laser energy that could potentially harm the surrounding areas within the eye.
