Despite suffering two strokes, double leg amputations and lengthy hospital stays, LaVern Baker (1929-1997) continued performing and recording to the end of her life. This performance of B. B. King’s "Woke Up This Morning", which she had recorded as the title song for her 1992 DRG album, was filmed just six months before her death at a P.O.R.C.C. event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1996. She is joined by musical director-guitarist Barry Marshall and the Pure Gold band. Thanks to Bill "Zimp" Zimpleman and Steve "Weet" Larcovic for sharing the original footage.
