I love the idea that king and the collector become close friends and that king teaches the collector that he can have fun without inflicting pain on others.

At the end, in case anyone was confused, the Collector sees how sad King is without his other friends, and so the Collector rebuilds the portal door for him as a surprise, but of course only King has titans blood.
