দ্য কুৎসিত হংসশাবক - The Ugly Duckling | Bengali Cartoon | Bangla Short Story For Kids

Gugu once saw a bull looking at itself in the mirror and nodding its head in disapproval
It went closer and asked what the problem was. The bull told Gugu that there are so many animals in the forest which look much better than itself whereas he is fat, dark and so unappealing. Gugu said, "Come, let me tell you a story"

Near a beautiful pond, there lived a lovely duck couple who were expecting their eggs to hatch and they were very excited about it
When the time came, four beautiful ducklings came out of the egg and the parents were very happy and proud to see that they were all so beautiful
A little while later, another egg hatched and while the duck couple were expecting another handsome duckling to come out, what came out was a dark duckling
They disowned it saying that it did not look like them and abandoned it, taking with them only the other four good-looking ducklings
This little duckling was left all by itself and was not just lonely but highly disappointed too
It did not know how it was responsible for what it looked like and cursed its existence
Days passed and one winter afternoon, this little duckling was trying to beat the chill weather when a mongoose that was passing asked what it was doing alone on a winter day.
After listening to its story, the mongoose took sympathy over it and invited it home to share the fireplace.
The duckling went with it and stayed there for sometime
Another day when the duckling was walking by the pond, a family of swans were passing by that way
They looked at him and came closer asking if he were new around that place as they had never seen them there earlier
The duckling said that it had been around that place for a while and stayed with the mongoose lately but came out rarely as it was ugly to look at
On hearing this, the older swan disagreed that the duckling should be thinking that way
It told the duckling that it was a dusky beauty and encouraged it to look at itself in the pond
When the duckling looked at itself, it noticed that it was indeed handsome and was just a shade different from the others.It improved the confidence of the duckling who had now found new friends and lived with them happily ever after

Having told this story to the bull, Gugu says that beauty indeed lies in the eyes of the beholder
