I really love making drum tracks on the Digitakt. I find myself just pulling in samples, playing around with the sound design, and then making little variations and then putting that on loop to listen to. There's something wildly satisfying about using the probability and other trigger conditions to create variation.

Today was a reminder though, that almost all music equipment is designed around writing in 4/4, and going outside of that will cause problems. It wasn't hugely difficult, but having to think through "Okay, I want this on the third beat of the third measure, so where is that in groupings of 16" isn't conducive for speedy writing. I know I could take advantage of multiple patterns rather than doing everything in one, and I think that's the approach I'll take next time.

This is one of the reasons that I don't think I'll ever be a "dawless" guy. Setting tempo and time signature changes in Reaper is quick and easy. On hardware it's almost always not.

Anyway, I had a THC drink that I bought at the grocery store, made a chill beat, and played with an electric piano for a bit. Pads are from the Augmented Strings VST.
