Kajabi vs. Udemy

Описание к видео Kajabi vs. Udemy

While both Kajabi and Udemy allow you to sell online courses, they have entirely different business structures. Watch our full Udemy review to see the differences.

What makes Kajabi and Udemy so different is that Udemy is an online course marketplace while Kajabi is a business growth and management tool.

With Udemy, you list your courses on their marketplace. As of this video filming, there are 183,000 courses available on Udemy. With Udemy, there are no fees. You can upload a course for free. But you’ll be subject to Udemy’s revenue share model, which we’ll discuss later in the video.

With Kajabi, you get an all-in-one business tool to build, market, and sell your digital products. You can sell online courses, but also coaching programs, membership site access, private podcasts, and other digital downloads. You’ll get sales and marketing tools and business analytics. With Kajabi, you’re really empowered to run an online business.

So when deciding between Udemy or Kajabi, you’ll need to think about which works best for your structure, and how active or passive you intend to be when it comes to knowledge commerce.

Sales and Marketing Tools

To sell your online course, you’ll need to promote it to potential customers. Let’s compare Udemy and Kajabi when it comes to sales and marketing tools.

Since Kajabi is an all in one platform, we include a ton of marketing tools. You’ll get a website builder with tons of templates, integrated forms, a customer relationship management center, email marketing functionality with automated email funnels, and the ability to offer lead magnet downloads to help with lead generation. Kajabi also comes with payment processing and coupon functionality, so you can use your own pricing strategies.

Udemy does give instructors some options for promoting their own courses. Instructor’s coupons, for instance, allow you to promote your course at a reduced rate. And you can opt-in to the Udemy Deals program to be part of Udemy’s marketing promotions. Udemy reports they use data science and economics to choose the promotional price range for these courses that they promote. So, if your course is chosen to be part of the promotion, they may market on your behalf, but they’ll take a big commission for each sale that comes from their promotion.

Quality Control Guidelines

When using a platform to sell anything, especially a marketplace, you’ll need to follow their guidelines.

With #Udemy, they have stricter quality control guidelines. Here are their minimum requirements: Edit out all uhms, pauses, and verbal mistakes, demonstrate enthusiasm, and speak with a measured pace. They also recommend that instructors use visual aids and say “I” and “you” instead of “we”. While these are all great ways to keep the quality high, it’s a lot of pressure on the instructor. And you could get your course rejected even after putting in a lot of work to make it.

Kajabi does not have those same requirements. You do not need to edit videos to a certain quality standard. That’s up to you and your brand.

Conclusion: should you sell on Kajabi or Udemy?

If your goal is to build a knowledge business, Udemy is limited. You can publish a course — and even get started for free — but you can’t use the platform to build a website, email list, or sales funnels to promote your course. So, if you are looking for a passive strategy, and just want to upload some courses and not put much work or any investment into promoting it, Udemy could be a good fit for you. Just remember that you’ll be competing on a marketplace. So even with Udemy, instructors will likely need to promote their course to generate sales.
