[Transcript]: Ghanaian environmental activist Abubakar Tahiru, a forestry student, set a new Guinness World Record by hugging 1,123 trees in one hour. Aged 29, he achieved an average of almost 19 hugs per minute. Raised in a farming community in Tepa, Ghana, Abubakar's passion for nature and conservation spurred him on.

After earning his forestry undergraduate degree at a top Ghanaian university, Abubakar began his master's program at Auburn University in Alabama, USA, last year. His record attempt occurred at Tuskegee National Forest, one of Alabama's four timber-rich national forests. For this record, a hug is defined as both arms wrapped around a tree. Each tree may only be hugged once, and no damage is allowed. Abubakar found it challenging to quickly move between trees while ensuring each hug met standards.

His record attempt was made even more challenging by his Ramadan fast, preventing him from consuming water. "Not being able to drink water throughout the attempt posed a significant challenge, especially given the physical exertion required," Abubakar said.

"However, this also proved to be helpful in a way, as there was no need to pause for water breaks, allowing me to continue the attempt uninterrupted from start to finish. Achieving this world record feels incredibly rewarding. It's a meaningful gesture to highlight the crucial role of trees in our ecosystem and the urgency of environmental conservation," he added.

After setting this world record, Abubakar now plans to deepen his involvement in forestry by working on the development of sustainable practices and by collaborating with environmental organizations to promote sustainable projects.
