City gives alcohol to homeless, costs $4M per year; reportedly only helped 55 people

Controversy is brewing over a San Francisco program that gives free alcohol to homeless people and reportedly costs the city $4 Million per year. Under the Managed Alcohol Program or MAP, a nurse provides alcohol to those enrolled and housed in a hotel in the city's Tenderloin district. While the San Francisco Department of Health says MAP has shown a reduction in calls for emergency services for the people enrolled, the program has reportedly only helped 55 people in the 4 years since it began.
